SYNC Is An Optional Feature
You'd think Ford would make SYNC a standard feature with how much emphasis the market is putting on Android Auto and Apple Carplay. I was reading the disclosure section on Ford's site and came across that bit in the fine print. :|

If you scroll all the way down on the U.S. Ford site you'll see this bit:

So it sounds like the early adopters won't get SYNC Connect as standard while the later model year units will?SYNC Connect is an optional feature on select 2017 model year vehicles
Either that or around mid-year it'll change itself to "current model year vehicles" and that's how you'll know we all gotta pay for it.
That would make sense when it comes to how their vehicles are currently which is, not too techy or too connected much like higher end vehicles from luxury car makers. Instead these are very basic. Far more reasons to introduce it as refreshed and next generation models come out.
Gives them something to bank and introduce as a "new standard feature" to increase the hype for a mid-year refresh. What a lot of automakers do, implement "some" tech for the beginning, and just keep adding features to bring it back yearly and gauge interest.

The price increase typically isn't much at all though or if they even do it so that's something I'm definitely okay with. I can swallow paying another $1k or so for some extra features or features that perform better than before.
Hence why they do those increases, easier to raise price up $4000 when you do it over a span of 7-8 years incrementally right under everyones nose, much like what's done in many other industries. When it comes to market specific information, sometimes they are your only choice.
The other option is to email Ford corporate.
Unfortunately, a lot of people car shopping aren't aware of the sync 3 and sync connect features so don't know what they're not getting (if it isn't on their vehicle) until after it's too late. Ford isn't doing a very good job of educating new car buyers on such things, and I think Ford might sell more vehicles if it did a better job in this area.

Unfortunately when you're at the mercy of dealers its always a losing situation. They want you in and out ASAP, like clockwork.
