Has anyone else had their rear window just shatter out of the blue for no apparent reason. I have a 2021 EcoSport SE and 2 weeks after I bought it, the back window broke into a million pieces. I thought something must have hit it. Then 5 months later, I was getting something out of the back seat and I heard a loud bang. It was my window shattering AGAIN. No cracks before hand, nothing impacted it, no cars driving by, no nothing. I love my car, but I don't want to have to replace the window every 5 months. Anyone else have this problem?

Seriously, there must be something putting undue stress on the glass. I have no idea what it could be, though.

Did either of you turn on the rear window defroster when it was really cold?
From what I gathered on the internet, rear windows do sometimes explode, usually due to sudden changes in temperature.
Even sunroofs do it, though I've never seen one with a defroster. 😀

I have a theory: The heat vents are all in the front. The front seats warm up nicely, but the rest of the car doesn't warm up as quickly, especially for short trips.
The quick change in temperature on a frozen window is enough to stress the safety glass.

If it's really cold out, and you need to demist the back window, just turn it on for a minute, then turn it off for a minute. Let it warm gradually.

I didn't have the defrost on. Also yesterday the temp went from high 60s to 30s at night then back upto 46ish when I got up for work. I then drove 15 min and when pulling into work boom it just shattered.
