Potential Turbo rattle

Hello - has anyone had any issues with a rattle when the clutch is out and in neutral? This often happens when cold.
Could this be linked to the turbo?
thanks in advance

Hey Scott! Is this the Ecoboost 1.0L or a diesel? does the noise go away when you depress the clutch?

I found a thread on the Ford Focus forums where people have had similar issues, but it's been hit or miss on what the cause is.

Hi - it’s the 1l eco boost. It seems rattle below 2000rpm but disappears when above that and when the engine is hot.

Do turbos last a long time? It’s only 24000 miles. Ive had it two months so hoping the garage can find the fault.

Turbo is typically life of the vehicle. What concerns me is that the 1.0l ecoboost has a known and documented issue with oil pump drive belt tensioner failures that cause catastrophic engine failure, sometimes around your mileage. (Last one I filed was a little over 25k miles). I'm not sure if you get noises prior to failure, but it may be a good thing to have checked out at the dealer.
Okay - thanks, the noise came back today (in neutral and clutch out when standing still) but went when I depressed the clutch it disappeared - I've got it booked in at the dealer for the new year so hopefully, they can spot this - I will ensure to mention it to them as they struggled to find the issue during the last check-up. I'm also thinking a 1000 mile trip during the holidays is not a good idea then. Shame it's our bigger car so it'll make things a little squashed but better to be safe than sorry.
from pasted experience sound like possibly a throw out bearing on the trans/clutch

interesting. It’s another good suggestion to give to the garage - is that easily fixed?
