Keypad entry on SE??

Hi all,
First post. Thanks for having me. Two Saturdays ago, I bought a '19 Ecosport SE to replace my '13 Escape SE. I have all Ford vehicles ('10 Fusion, '11 F150, and '15 Edge) and am VERY accustomed to locking the keys in the car and using the keypad on the door to get into it. I told the dealer about this when I bought the car and they assured me that it was a simple dealer installed option to add a keypad. I had them figure the cost of installation into the deal, scheduled an installation appointment, and away we went. Fast forward to the next week day and I get a call saying that the keypad entry kit is not compatible with my SE since it has push button start and the proximity unlock (you just get close to the door with the key and the doors unlock). My Edge has this same proximity unlock feature, but it also has a factory installed keypad. I love the car, but it annoys me more than a little that I am having to forgo a feature that I really like because the dealer mislead me.

The question for this group is: Has anyone figured out how to use a FORD keypad entry to work with one of these systems? I can't believe that in the world of hacks, work-arounds, and bright people that we live, there is not a solution for this. The car does not include Ford Connect (that I know of). They told me that the "Convenience package" was navigation and some floor lighting. Subsequent research tells me that I really should have bought a car with the Convenience Package..... ughh

We have three 2018 Ecosports in the family. All three that the keypad for unlocking the car on them. All three have key fobs as opposed to keys. If the proximity unlock is the sensor on the door handle that you touch to lock/unlock the vehicle, two of them have that.

I think you could probably get the keypad and it would work. I think they add about $100 or so. They should work on any Ford from my experience. Maybe this dealer just thinks you don't need it...
Thanks for the reply Tall Timbers.
I would think that too, but the dealer tells me the "add-on" keypad doesn't work with my car. I just don't believe it can be.... Is the keypad on your SE factory installed or add-on?
remote door unlocking

I have a 2018 EcoSport SES and I use the FordPass app on my cell phone to unlock the doors without the key FOB.

Amazon

It's ordered from the factory but installed by the dealer. That's an idea, go to ford.com and see if you can configure an ecosport that has your features and includes the keypad... if you can, take a print out to the dealer, or if you have a choice of dealers in your area, go to a different dealer.
Great idea Tall Timbers. I went online and "built" a 2020 with the same equipment package as mine and it lets me have intelligent access with push button start AND a keypad entry system option. I think it's time to get a second dealer opinion.

Thanks!

I just bought a 2020 Titanium and had the dealer install a keypad before I picked it up. No problems at all. I usually use the keypad to get into the car when I left the keys in the house or office. You can also leave your FOB in the car, lock it, and get back in later with the keypad.
