Just went and picked up a 2020 ecosport the other day and went to open the hood
when I got home. To my surprise the hood would not open and I ended up having to pull
the cable from behind the release lever and then it popped open. So from watching under
the hood while some one pulls the release the cable is to long to release the hood, when
pulled the cable moves in until it gets to the release tab and stops. So I am wondering is
the cable stretched? Did it come out of a holder somewhere behind the pull lever? Did
something at the end of the cable come off? I am not sure anyone ran into this? or have
any ideas? I thought about crimping on some metal spacers at the end so it would pull the
tab or just replacing the cable. Anyway I thought before I did anything I should ask others
to see if they hand any insight as to what caused this or if it was a common problem.

thanks

I don't think the cable itself has stretched. Granted is only a small diameter cable but the force it would take to stretch it would be considerable.

"Did it come out of a holder somewhere behind the pull lever?"

I think that is the more likely scenario. The cables protective sheath/housing has slipped or become detached from the mounting bracket. When you pull the release lever, it is not only pulling the cable but the sheath that surrounds it. When that happens, you are not getting enough movement from just the cable...thus it doesn't release.

Check the one under the hood first and be sure the sheath is attached as it should be. If it is not, it should be an easy fix. However, if it's the one in the driver's compartment, it gets more complicated. The fix would be the same, but you are going to have to be a contortionist with a flashlight and a mirror to even see it.....lol.

To be honest, unless the problem is the one under the hood, I would just use some spacers as you suggested....and/or just use your finger to release it.

thanks guys for the feedback, I have it working now and it appears to be in all of its
mounts and routed the right way. I actually got it to open up so I added two cable clamps to the end so it would shorten it and now it works fine. I plan to put on a new one later. And I routed a piece of wire over to the fender well from the latch as an emergency back up and it works good also.

thanks
