Ford announced today that it is issuing a recall on the EcoSport and expanding the long-running recall on defective Takata airbag inflators. The recalls cover 2019 EcoSports and various 2010-2014 model Ford vehicles.
According to Ford, some EcoSport models feature an insufficient weld on the front seat backs between two components, the side member and the A-bracket.
The result of the weak weld is a potential failure of the seat in a collision, causing injuries. Ford is currently unaware of any injuries or deaths related to this issue, and it currently only affects 87 EcoSports in the U.S. and Canada.
That Takata recall is expanding to many vehicles outside of Ford. It looking to be one of the biggest we've ever seen in the industry. Looks like the weld issue only affects around 90 units, so that's good.
