2018 EcoSport Titanium Digital Instrument Cluster upgrade

So… after finding a 2020 Escape cluster for a rather decent price (only $300) I caved and went ahead and bought it!
To my surprise, it worked immediately, with the exception of the gas gauge (not sure what the solution to this is currently)
The plastic did need a bit of modification, but after I figure out the gas gauge issue, this should be a well suited replacement.

Interesting. I hope you figure out the gas gauge situation.
Honestly, my best bet is trying to find a pin out of the 2018’s cluster, but I’m having no avail without having to buy a wiring diagram from someone.

My other car is a Fiesta ST. It has a cult following, a fat aftermarket, and an active forum that knows the car inside-out. It's really fun and fast, too, with only a few mods.

The Ecosport doesn't get that kind of love. It's a cheap (though capable) little CUV. It's not an enthusiast's car, and the car press in the US didn't like it much. It wasn't stellar, compared to the competition.

I like it because it has good ground clearance, 4WD, and no serious issues. It has a torque converter, not a CVT. That's why it can tow 2000 lbs. The competition can't. You give up a little fuel efficiency and acceleration for a transmission that can haul the mail.

If you figure this out, please share it. There is so much you can do with this car, but so little information.

After following the pin outs for both the Ecosport and the Escape, I bridged pins 9-10 and 1-2. No luck so far as far as gauge readings go. Might have to buy a 2020 Escape fuel sender unit.

EDIT: If I can figure out what the resistance values are for the 2020 Escape's sender unit, this might actually be easier (i.e. I can just make a bridge board)

Right now, the EcoSport is reporting an average of 56 ohms (which equates to half a tank, according to the original cluster).

The Escape cluster also outputs a 12VAC signal which is… odd? The Ecosport outputs a 4.5VDC signal

EDIT2: The Escape cluster generates a 50hz signal on both pins, whereas the Ecosport generates a 5hz signal on pin 2 only.

Got the gas gauge situation taken care of. All the IPC parameters were reset to 0 including the tank size lol. It was also trying to read the gas from the PCM instead of the IPC. So this mod should be a simple plug+play with programming and plastic molding :)

(still need to figure out how to disable the rear seatbelt monitor on the IPC though)

EDIT: restoring the Asbuilt codes from the Ecosport IPC solved all of my issues :)

First I’m floored by your knowledge and courage to attempt such a mod.

Second: What’s the final status?

2,000 miles later, I have had no issues with the mod! Everything seems to be working completely and I have no fault codes displayed on the IPC whatsoever.

Do you mind describing the procedure to reset all values to zero? Was it a plug in computer through OBD2 port or simply using the toggle peg or steering wheel toggles and “OK” buttons?

Can you please share a video 🙂
I found one on ebay at good price but is LJ6T-10849-DKK for the hybrid would this work anyway? Also the digital cluster for lincon is way cheaper dont know if it also work, and last question my titanium is mecanical the cluster should work anyway? Or is only for automatic. (Ecosport titanium 2019)
Thanks!
Hi. I was trying this more than an yearback but due to unavailability of the part i couldn't finish it. Except for the trim modifications the software part not a big problem making one
